You should delegate more,

00:00:06

Cindy.

00:00:07

You look tired.

00:00:08

You can't do everything alone.

00:00:10

Taking this advice to heart,

00:00:12

she immediately thought of the tedious task

00:00:14

of entering data into Excel spreadsheets,

00:00:17

which she hated so much.

00:00:18

Who better than Juliet to handle it?

00:00:21

Without delay,

00:00:22

Cindy dropped the file on Juliet's desk,

00:00:24

declaring,

00:00:25

Here,

00:00:26

I'm delegating this to you.

00:00:28

Juliet looked up feeling less appreciated than a trash

00:00:31

can in a park after a summer picnic.

00:00:34

She complied,

00:00:35

but without enthusiasm and delivered shoddy,

00:00:37

error-filled work.

00:00:39

Cindy had to start all over again.

00:00:42

Second attempt,

00:00:43

Cindy delegated a crucial file for the company to mark who wanted to handle it

00:00:48

without ensuring his competence or setting up a follow up.

00:00:52

She trusted him.

00:00:53

During the presentation to the board of directors,

00:00:56

the atmosphere was uncomfortable as a failed standup act.

00:01:00

The analysis was superficial,

00:01:02

the advice inappropriate.

00:01:04

Cindy was red with shame.

00:01:06

Mark resented Cindy for passing him a hot potato without training or support.

00:01:10

He who had so much ambition had just made a

00:01:13

fool of himself in front of the executive board.

00:01:16

Last chance,

00:01:18

Victoria,

00:01:19

competent and passionate,

00:01:20

was entrusted with a project within her reach.

00:01:23

However,

00:01:24

Cindy decided to keep an overly watchful eye on her work.

00:01:28

It was a project she loved.

00:01:30

It was her baby.

00:01:31

She'd taken it upon herself to part with it and give it to Victoria.

00:01:35

Every email,

00:01:36

every decision was scrutinized and corrected.

00:01:39

Victoria felt like a puppet actor under the direction of a tyrannical director

00:01:44

and suffocated,

00:01:45

she resigned.

00:01:47

Cindy then realized that delegating was not a simple task transmission.

00:01:51

It was a matter of trust,

00:01:53

communication,

00:01:54

and organization in stages according to each individual's motivation and skills.

00:02:00

She then enrolled in a course on effective delegation.
