00:00:02

a manager of a hybrid team,

00:00:04

noticed a slight drop in performance since

00:00:06

the widespread transition to hybrid mode.

00:00:09

She organized a meeting to understand the challenges each team member was facing.

00:00:13

She had thought that hybrid work would be a

00:00:15

breeze after the 100% remote work mandated by COVID.

00:00:19

However,

00:00:20

hybrid work revealed unexpected new challenges.

00:00:24

To her surprise,

00:00:25

the open discussion led to cross complaints.

00:00:28

Paula said to Tom,

00:00:30

When you're working remotely and I'm in the office,

00:00:32

the lack of your immediate feedback slows down our responsiveness.

00:00:36

Tom retorted,

00:00:37

and when you're in the office and I'm working remotely,

00:00:40

you forget to share crucial information.

00:00:43

But the most difficult part for Billy was the criticism directed at her.

00:00:48

The team turned to Billy,

00:00:49

accusing her of preferring in-person work despite

00:00:52

her speeches in favor of remote work.

00:00:55

You say you're open to remote work,

00:00:57

but you constantly put huge pressure on us to come to the office as often as possible.

00:01:02

Some of us don't dare to take all our remote work days to

00:01:05

avoid feeling guilty both towards you and those who prefer office work.

00:01:09

This tension has created two clans in the team,

00:01:12

and it's very stressful.

00:01:14

Phily listened,

00:01:15

struck by the reality of these challenges.

00:01:18

First,

00:01:19

she changed her perspective and made sure to judge remote and office work equally.

00:01:24

She stopped believing that one was better than the other,

00:01:27

feeding the clans and tensions in the team.

00:01:29

She made sure that the colleagues who chose to spend more time in the office stopped

00:01:33

pointing fingers and penalizing those who took all

00:01:36

the remote work days allowed by the company.

00:01:39

She also took bold steps to make hybrid work easier for everyone.

00:01:43

She introduced collaborative technologies to streamline communication.

00:01:47

Established regular meetings to balance exchanges

00:01:50

and created common virtual spaces for informal interactions.

00:01:55

She also clarified expectations,

00:01:57

ensuring equity between on-site and remote team members.

00:02:01

Gradually,

00:02:02

these changes had the desired positive effects,

00:02:05

harmony and performance returned to the hybrid team.
