wasting 16 years of your life in useless meetings.

00:00:10

Once upon a time there was a conductor named Bob

00:00:13

who dreamed of directing the best symphony ever played.

00:00:17

He'd recruited the best musicians and singers to help him in this mission,

00:00:21

but there was one small problem.

00:00:24

Bob was a terrible conductor.

00:00:26

He had the soul of a musician,

00:00:28

the sense of accomplished beauty.

00:00:30

But he had never learned to lead the men and women who make up the orchestra.

00:00:35

He didn't know how to give clear objectives to his musicians,

00:00:39

so they each played in their corner according to their own vision.

00:00:43

He didn't know how to maintain the framework,

00:00:45

so rehearsals lasted for hours without accomplishing anything.

00:00:49

The discussions navigated from one score to another,

00:00:53

debating on the tone and rhythm,

00:00:55

and no clear decisions were made.

00:00:57

It wasn't progressing.

00:00:59

He didn't know how to manage the balance in musical expression,

00:01:03

so the musicians stepped on each other's toes or were not heard.

00:01:07

One day during a particularly chaotic rehearsal,

00:01:10

one of the singers approached Bob and asked,

00:01:13

Maestro,

00:01:14

where are we going with this symphony?

00:01:16

Bob replied,

00:01:17

Well,

00:01:18

it's a symphony.

00:01:19

It doesn't need a direction.

00:01:21

The singer raised an eyebrow and said,

00:01:23

How can we play music if we don't know where we want to end up?

00:01:27

You're wasting our time.

00:01:29

Bob realised that his passion was not enough.

00:01:33

He worked hard to provide clear and inspiring direction,

00:01:37

to maintain the framework of rehearsals and

00:01:39

to manage the balance in musical expression.

00:01:42

Finally,

00:01:43

the symphony was performed in front of a full house.

00:01:46

It was clear,

00:01:47

limpid,

00:01:48

harmonious,

00:01:49

even innovative,

00:01:50

like never seen or heard before.

00:01:53

And that's how Bob understood that the success of a meeting depended not only

00:01:57

on the quality of the musicians but also on the quality of the conducting.
