who are incompetent and unmotivated by the task.

00:00:13

You will surely meet someone who generally

00:00:16

lacks experience and training on the subject.

00:00:19

They are reluctant,

00:00:20

even resistant,

00:00:22

towards the task.

00:00:23

Is this reluctance simply because the person is

00:00:27

unable to do and consequently cannot act?

00:00:30

They would therefore feel insecure and will

00:00:33

sometimes seek for your continuous assistance.

00:00:36

Are they reluctant towards the task?

00:00:39

In that case,

00:00:40

it would be necessary to understand why

00:00:43

in order to implement the adequate strategy.

00:00:46

If despite their incompetence and lack of motivation you still

00:00:51

believe they are the right person for the task,

00:00:53

you would need to adopt a directive management approach.

00:00:58

Be precise in your expectations.

00:01:00

The expected deadlines.

00:01:02

Train them on the skills they lack

00:01:04

by explaining with clear instructions and demonstrations,

00:01:08

or also by training them.

00:01:10

Be present in close follow up and supervision at every stage.

00:01:16

Value the results obtained as well as the competence gained

00:01:20

in order to boost motivation.

00:01:23

Your objective is to guide the team member on the task at hand.

00:01:27

You have to be clear,

00:01:28

pedagogic,

00:01:29

and patient as you transmit the knowledge on how it should be carried out.

00:01:35

Two points to pay attention to.

00:01:37

Ensure to maintain a respectful form of communication towards the person.

00:01:42

Without making yourself

00:01:44

seem like the boss who gives orders and requires

00:01:47

everyone to work as instructed without any objection,

00:01:51

if you are permanently in directive management,

00:01:54

there is something wrong

00:01:56

either because your team members are improving

00:01:58

neither in competence nor in motivation.

00:02:01

How can it be?

00:02:02

Or because you continue being directive,

00:02:06

whereas they've increased incompetence and or motivation.

00:02:09

You may end up demotivating them or even inciting them to rebellion.
