effectively to persuade and inspire their audience.

Here are some notable examples.

Obama in his victory speech punctuated

Storytelling,

00:00:39

whether it's your story or someone else's,

00:00:41

is a powerful tool,

00:00:43

not just to inform,

00:00:44

but also to inspire and mobilize around a cause or vision.

00:00:48

You may have noticed that each presentation by TED Talk

00:00:51

speakers includes 2 to 3 stories and or personal examples.

00:00:56

In his 2005 Stanford commencement address,

00:01:00

Steve Jobs shared three significant personal stories,

00:01:04

each carrying a powerful message.

00:01:07

Jobs recounted how he dropped out of college,

00:01:09

which allowed him to take classes that really interested him like calligraphy.

00:01:14

These classes had no direct link to his future,

00:01:17

but he highlighted how years later

00:01:19

those calligraphy skills proved crucial in

00:01:22

designing the first Macintosh computers.

00:01:24

He encouraged graduates to confidently believe that the dots

00:01:28

in their lives would connect in the future.

00:01:31

Jobs also talked about his love for what he did,

00:01:35

how he was fired from Apple,

00:01:36

the company he founded,

00:01:38

and how this difficult period ultimately renewed him.

00:01:42

During this time he founded Next and Pixar and met his future wife.

00:01:48

Jobs emphasized the importance of continuing to do what you love,

00:01:52

even when times are tough.

00:01:54

The last story was about his own mortality.

00:01:58

After being diagnosed with cancer,

00:02:00

Jobs realized the brevity of life which motivated him

00:02:04

to pursue his dreams with even more urgency.

00:02:07

He advised students not to be trapped by dogma

00:02:10

and to live as if they were already dead

00:02:13

to avoid the trap of thinking they have something to lose.

00:02:17

Jobs concluded by reminding the students to stay hungry,

00:02:21

stay foolish,

00:02:22

encouraging a bold pursuit of their passions and dreams.
