we will analyze the basic functions of Powerfs and Power apps.

00:00:10

Power Apps is a low code application development platform

00:00:14

that allows anyone to easily create custom business applications.

00:00:19

Let's start with the structure of a function.

00:00:21

Like in Excel,

00:00:22

Power FX functions begin with their name,

00:00:25

followed by an opening parenthesis.

00:00:28

Each parameter is separated by a comma.

00:00:32

Let's take the sum function which adds 2 or more numbers.

00:00:35

Here we have 2 text boxes,

00:00:37

each containing numbers.

00:00:39

We will insert a 3rd box that will display the sum of the 1st 2.

00:00:43

In the formula bar,

00:00:45

first enter the name of the function

00:00:47

sum in our case,

00:00:48

followed by the opening parenthesis.

00:00:51

Next,

00:00:52

you need to enter the name of the first text box,

00:00:54

followed by a dot to access its properties.

00:00:58

The property we are interested in here is the text contained.

00:01:01

Then enter the second text box,

00:01:03

separating the two with a comma.

00:01:06

After that,

00:01:07

we can close the parenthesis.

00:01:09

Like in Excel,

00:01:10

this function is dynamic.

00:01:12

Any modification automatically updates the formula.

00:01:16

This operation can also be performed by a

00:01:18

simple addition without using the sum function.

00:01:21

To do this,

00:01:22

simply enter the name of each text box,

00:01:24

followed by the text property

00:01:26

and use the plus sign to add them.

00:01:30

Let's take a more concrete example.

00:01:33

We will import this Excel file into Power apps and display

00:01:36

the sum of the sales figures in a text box.

00:01:39

For the data import to work correctly,

00:01:41

you need to transform the Excel base into a table.

00:01:45

Once this is done,

00:01:46

you can close the workbook.

00:01:49

Now,

00:01:49

let's add this workbook to our application

00:01:51

by choosing the Excel Online Business connector.

00:01:56

Select the location of the workbook you want to import.

00:02:00

In this example,

00:02:01

we have placed the workbook in a OneDrive folder.

00:02:05

Select the workbook and the table you want to import.

00:02:10

Insert a text box and enter the sum function.

00:02:12

The parameters differ slightly.

00:02:15

You need to first enter the name of the table.

00:02:18

And then separated by a comma,

00:02:21

the name of the column you want to add.

00:02:24

You now know how to write a Power FX function.

00:02:27

However,

00:02:28

there's more.

00:02:29

We will explore other functions through examples in the following videos.
