Teams - Add channels and tabs in Teams Tutorial

Add a channel to a team and attach a tab in that channel. The video walks through selecting a team, opening the team menu, choosing add channel, naming the channel, selecting a channel type (standard, shared, or private), and configuring visibility. It covers optional settings like recommending users and channel layout options (threads vs posts). Then it shows creating the channel, locating it in Teams, and adding a tab via the plus sign, choosing apps, and adding a Word file as a tab for easy access within the channel.

00:00:04
you'll learn how to add a channel to a team's team,
00:00:07
and then how to add a tab to that channel.
00:00:10
A channel allows you to organize exchanges within a team,
00:00:15
for example,
00:00:15
within the same project team,
00:00:17
you can create an announcement channel,
00:00:20
a planning channel,
00:00:22
a resources channel,
00:00:23
or a channel dedicated to a specific topic.
00:00:27
Let's start by creating a new channel.
00:00:30
In the list of teams,
00:00:31
go to the team concerned.
00:00:33
In our example,
00:00:34
this is the test 2 team.
00:00:36
Click the three dots next to its name.
00:00:38
A menu opens with several actions.
00:00:41
For example,
00:00:42
you can hide all channels,
00:00:44
add a member,
00:00:45
manage the team,
00:00:47
copy the link,
00:00:48
archive,
00:00:49
or leave the team.
00:00:50
To create a new chat space,
00:00:53
click add channel.
00:00:54
The create channel window opens
00:00:57
in the channel name field,
00:00:59
enter the name of your channel.
00:01:01
Letters,
00:01:02
numbers,
00:01:03
and spaces are allowed.
00:01:05
You can then add a description.
00:01:08
This description helps users understand what the channel is for.
00:01:12
Below,
00:01:12
the choose a channel type field allows you to
00:01:15
define who will be able to access this channel.
00:01:19
When you open the list,
00:01:20
Teams offers 3 types of channels.
00:01:23
The standard channel is available to all team members.
00:01:27
This is the most common choice for general
00:01:30
exchanges or topics that concern the whole team.
00:01:34
The shared channel allows you to collaborate
00:01:36
with people or teams in your organization
00:01:39
or even with people outside your organization if allowed.
00:01:43
The private channel is reserved for specific team members.
00:01:47
It is useful for smaller exchanges,
00:01:50
for example,
00:01:51
with a subgroup or for sensitive information.
00:01:54
In our example,
00:01:56
we choose a channel that is accessible to everyone at the team level.
00:02:00
This corresponds to a standard channel.
00:02:03
You can also check the recommend users to
00:02:06
show this channel in their channel list box.
00:02:09
This option makes the channel more visible to team members.
00:02:13
Next Teams offers a layout section.
00:02:17
This section allows you to choose how messages will be organized in the channel.
00:02:22
The threads option organizes exchanges as separate conversations.
00:02:27
Each topic can have its own answers.
00:02:30
This is handy when several discussions are taking place in parallel.
00:02:34
The post option displays messages with the most recent replies highlighted.
00:02:40
This layout is more suitable for forums,
00:02:42
announcements,
00:02:43
or exchanges
00:02:45
where the latest answers must be easy to spot.
00:02:48
When you're done with the settings,
00:02:49
click create.
00:02:51
The new channel then appears in Teams
00:02:54
at the bottom of the screen you can write a message in this channel
00:02:57
at the top of the channel
00:02:59
you will find several tabs.
00:03:01
In the example we see conversation
00:03:04
shared
00:03:05
page and notes.
00:03:07
You can also add other tabs as needed
00:03:09
to do this,
00:03:10
click on the plus button to the right of the existing tabs.
00:03:13
A menu opens with several choices such as new page,
00:03:18
existing page,
00:03:19
or apps.
00:03:20
To add an app or file as a tab,
00:03:23
choose apps.
00:03:25
Teams then displays a window with several apps available
00:03:28
for this tutorial we're gonna take just one example
00:03:32
adding a word tab.
00:03:33
Click Word.
00:03:35
Teams then asks you to choose which file to use.
00:03:38
Once you have chosen the file,
00:03:40
click save.
00:03:42
The file is then added as a new tab in the channel.
00:03:46
You can now open it directly in Teams without leaving the channel.
00:03:50
This makes it easier for channel members to view and work on the workbook.
00:03:55
You now know how to add a channel in a team's team
00:03:58
and add a tab to integrate a tool or a file.
00:04:01
Channels help structure exchanges
00:04:03
while tabs help centralize important resources in one place.
