Clipchamp - Generate Captions with Clipchamp Tutorial

Clipchamp's captions feature lets you add auto captions to audio or video. The process starts by turning on auto captions in the toolbar, leaving the source language as English, and letting the transcription run. The transcript appears with time stamps in a right-hand panel; captions can be hidden, and an SRT file can be downloaded. You can customize caption appearance by selecting text, choosing a default style, and adjusting color, font, weight, size, alignment, and spacing. Drag captions to reposition, review playback, then proceed to edits like speed changes.

00:00:05
to add captions directly to your video,
00:00:08
similar to how captions are commonly used on social media.
00:00:12
This works with a video or audio track containing a voiceover.
00:00:17
I'll deselect the clips by clicking on an empty area of
00:00:20
the timeline so I can access the turn on auto captions button
00:00:23
in the toolbar above the preview window.
00:00:26
The source language does not need to be changed here,
00:00:29
so I will leave it in English.
00:00:31
The analysis now begins.
00:00:32
For this example,
00:00:33
I've used a video from our intermediate clip champ course,
00:00:37
just under 2 minutes long.
00:00:39
Under real world conditions,
00:00:40
the transcription took just under 4 minutes.
00:00:43
Once the process is complete,
00:00:45
I click the transcription button again.
00:00:47
Then I choose edit transcript and captions.
00:00:51
The automatic transcription appears in the panel on the right
00:00:54
with the text and time stamps.
00:00:56
The transcript can of course be hidden using the hide captions button.
00:01:00
We can also see that the captions have been automatically added to the video.
00:01:04
This is a great way to make your videos more dynamic and accessible.
00:01:08
However,
00:01:09
be careful
00:01:10
transcription errors can occur,
00:01:11
so it's important to review the captions carefully.
00:01:14
If I want to hide the captions or download the SRT file,
00:01:18
I can click the corresponding icon at the top of the preview area.
00:01:22
To customize the captions appearance,
00:01:24
I simply select them directly.
00:01:27
I then click the caption styles button.
00:01:29
A text panel appears
00:01:31
where I can choose a default caption style.
00:01:34
This style can then be fully customized,
00:01:37
including the text color,
00:01:38
outline color,
00:01:39
and font.
00:01:40
Some fonts are more modern and easier to read than others.
00:01:44
It's up to you to try different options and
00:01:46
choose the one that works best for your video.
00:01:49
You can also adjust the text weight such as bold,
00:01:52
the font size,
00:01:53
and the alignment within the caption area.
00:01:56
The advanced menu allows you to adjust options
00:01:59
such as character spacing and line height.
00:02:02
When captions span multiple lines,
00:02:04
you may therefore need to make some additional adjustments
00:02:07
to keep them easy to read.
00:02:09
To change the position or the amount of space allocated to the captions,
00:02:14
simply drag them to the desired location,
00:02:17
and that's it.
00:02:18
All that's left to do is play the video and
00:02:20
make sure everything looks and sounds right and make another cut
00:02:24
next in the property panel on the right,
00:02:26
I select the speed.
