00:00:11

False.

00:00:12

Just because everything is working well doesn't mean you are safe.

00:00:15

Updates often fix security flaws you don't see,

00:00:18

but others are already aware of.

00:00:20

It's a bit like leaving a window slightly open at home.

00:00:23

You don't notice it,

00:00:24

everything seems normal,

00:00:26

but a burglar sees it immediately,

00:00:28

and that's often how attacks start,

00:00:30

through a forgotten flaw,

00:00:32

through an invisible bug.

00:00:33

Updates only relate to performance or new features.

00:00:38

False.

00:00:39

Improving performance is good,

00:00:41

but the majority of updates primarily fix security vulnerabilities.

00:00:45

Hackers can exploit these vulnerabilities in systems,

00:00:48

browsers,

00:00:48

or even the apps you use every day.

00:00:51

Not updating means leaving these vulnerabilities active.

00:00:55

Cyber attacks often exploit vulnerabilities that have been fixed for a long time.

00:01:00

True,

00:01:00

that's exactly what happens.

00:01:02

Cyber criminals use what is called an exploit,

00:01:05

a method that relies on a known vulnerability

00:01:07

that hasn't yet been fixed on your device.

00:01:10

They know that many people postpone updates and they take advantage of it.

00:01:13

In other words,

00:01:14

the vulnerability is public.

00:01:16

The solution exists,

00:01:17

but you haven't applied it yet.

00:01:19

So no,

00:01:20

updates are not useless.

00:01:21

They prevent someone from exploiting a vulnerability you're unaware of.
