Is a firewall the same as an antivirus? Tutorial

Curious if firewalls and antivirus software serve the same purpose? This video breaks it down! Discover how firewalls act as bouncers controlling network traffic, while antivirus software acts as security guards scanning for threats within your system. Learn why both are essential for comprehensive digital security. Don't miss this eye-opening explanation!

00:00:10

True,

00:00:11

the firewall is like the bouncer at a nightclub entrance.

00:00:14

It filters who has the right to enter or leave.

00:00:17

It controls the flow of network traffic.

00:00:20

The anti-virus,

00:00:21

on the other hand,

00:00:22

is more like the security guard inside

00:00:24

who checks that no one is behaving dangerously

00:00:26

or hiding something suspicious.

00:00:29

Both are important,

00:00:30

but they do not protect in the same way.

00:00:33

The firewall blocks suspicious connections,

00:00:35

not infected files.

00:00:37

True,

00:00:38

the firewall can block an intrusion attempt or

00:00:40

prevent software from communicating with the outside,

00:00:43

but it does not scan the files you open.

00:00:45

It won't see a virus in an attachment or a trapped program.

00:00:49

The anti-virus,

00:00:50

on the other hand,

00:00:51

analyzes files and detects malicious software.

00:00:54

They complement each other but do not replace one another.

00:00:57

Do I need an antivirus even if I already have a firewall?

00:01:01

True,

00:01:01

the firewall filters connections,

00:01:03

but it is not enough to detect a dangerous file,

00:01:06

a malicious link,

00:01:07

or a malware program already on your machine.

00:01:10

The anti-virus and the firewall each play

00:01:12

a different role in your digital security.

00:01:15

Both are necessary,

00:01:16

like the seat belt and the airbag in a car.

00:01:19

One does not replace the other.

00:01:21

So no,

00:01:21

a firewall is not like an anti-virus,

00:01:23

it's more like the bouncer at the entrance.

00:01:26

You also need a guard inside.
