if an email address seems correct or familiar,

00:00:10

it can be spoofed.

00:00:12

True,

00:00:12

cyber criminals know how to mimic a sender's address to make

00:00:15

it appear that a message comes from a trusted contact,

00:00:18

a bank,

00:00:18

a customer service,

00:00:20

a colleague.

00:00:21

The message may seem legitimate,

00:00:22

but the link or attachment may be malicious.

00:00:25

Never rely solely on the displayed address.

00:00:28

Also look at the content,

00:00:29

the context and ask yourself,

00:00:31

was I expecting this message?

00:00:34

A fraudulent message always contains mistakes or obvious signs.

00:00:38

False.

00:00:39

It was often true,

00:00:40

but not anymore.

00:00:41

Many phishing messages are perfectly written,

00:00:43

well presented,

00:00:44

and visually convincing.

00:00:45

The absence of mistakes proves nothing.

00:00:48

Just because a message looks professional doesn't mean it is safe.

00:00:51

Fraudulent use of my email address does not mean my account is hacked,

00:00:56

but I need to check my security settings and recent activity.

00:01:01

True.

00:01:02

Your address can be used as a fake sender without your account being compromised.

00:01:07

But if you receive alerts,

00:01:09

strange feedback,

00:01:10

or signs of unusual activity,

00:01:11

it's better to check.

00:01:13

Look at the login history,

00:01:15

change your password,

00:01:16

and ensure that two-factor authentication is enabled.

00:01:19

So no,

00:01:19

the email address is not enough to identify a reliable message.

00:01:23

You need to learn to look beyond what seems obvious.
