Available in Cybersecurity

00:00:10

False.

00:00:11

In theory,

00:00:12

an application must ask for your

00:00:13

permission to access certain functions microphone,

00:00:16

camera,

00:00:17

contacts,

00:00:17

for example.

00:00:18

But in practice,

00:00:19

some apps circumvent the rules or use permissions excessively,

00:00:22

and once installed,

00:00:24

an app can operate within the limits of

00:00:25

what you have accepted without necessarily reminding you.

00:00:29

Once installed,

00:00:30

can an app access certain data in the background?

00:00:34

True,

00:00:35

many apps continue to run even when you're not using them.

00:00:38

They can track your location,

00:00:39

analyze your usage,

00:00:41

or connect to the internet discretely.

00:00:43

You can limit this in settings,

00:00:45

but by default,

00:00:46

they often take advantage of it.

00:00:49

If an application comes from an official store,

00:00:51

is it risk free?

00:00:53

False.

00:00:54

Stores like Google Play or the App Store conduct checks,

00:00:57

but they are not foolproof.

00:00:59

Malicious apps sometimes manage to get through the

00:01:01

controls or can become risky after an update.

00:01:04

Even on an official store,

00:01:05

check the reviews,

00:01:06

the requested permissions,

00:01:07

and the reputation of the publisher.

00:01:10

So no,

00:01:11

apps are not always transparent,

00:01:12

and even on a smartphone,

00:01:14

you need to maintain control.
