Teams - Create a team and set up your first channel Tutorial

Create a team in Microsoft Teams, then set up its first channel and choose the chat layout. The tutorial covers launching team creation from the dedicated button, entering the team name and description, and selecting private or public visibility. It guides naming the first channel, optionally marking it as the general channel, and editing its name later. It explains two conversation layouts: publishing (linear stream) and thread (grouped replies), and notes that the chosen layout applies to new channels as they’re created.

00:00:04
we'll look at how to create a team in Microsoft Teams,
00:00:08
set up its first channel,
00:00:10
and choose the chat layout.
00:00:12
The creation of the team is done from the dedicated button in Microsoft Teams
00:00:17
on the screen that appears,
00:00:19
fill in the name of the team,
00:00:21
add a description to specify its use,
00:00:24
then choose the type of team,
00:00:27
private or public,
00:00:28
according to the level of visibility desired.
00:00:31
These elements set the general framework in
00:00:33
which channels and exchanges will be organized
00:00:37
on the same screen,
00:00:38
set the name of the first channel associated with the team.
00:00:42
This channel does not have an imposed title.
00:00:46
Enter the desired name directly.
00:00:49
If a main channel needs to stand out more clearly,
00:00:52
the first channel is defined as the general channel.
00:00:55
To do this,
00:00:56
open the menu of the three small dots next to its name,
00:01:00
then choose the option that sets it as the general channel.
00:01:04
Even when set as a general channel,
00:01:07
this channel is still fully editable.
00:01:09
By going back to the three dots menu
00:01:12
and then choosing the option to edit the channel,
00:01:15
change its name as needed.
00:01:18
General channel or
00:01:20
channel with a custom name.
00:01:22
The layout of conversations is adjusted for that channel.
00:01:26
Two modes are available.
00:01:28
The publishing layout displays messages one below the other in a continuous stream
00:01:34
which promotes a linear reading of the exchanges.
00:01:37
The thread layout groups replies around a starting message.
00:01:41
Each thread then forms a structured conversation with its own responses.
00:01:47
Making it easier to identify each topic
00:01:50
and follow a specific discussion
00:01:53
without losing track throughout the channel.
