Word - Navigation Pane Part 1 : Rearranging a document Video
In this video, you will learn about rearranging a document using the Navigation Pane in Microsoft Word.
The Navigation Pane allows you to navigate through your document without scrolling and easily locate specific sections.
You can open the Navigation Pane by activating the View tab and selecting the Navigation Pane checkbox or by clicking on the current page number at the bottom left of the status bar.
The Navigation Pane offers three ways to move through the document:
Headings, Pages, and Results.
The Headings view is based on the table of contents of your document, provided you have applied the Headings Style to it.
You can click on a title to navigate to it, and Word will highlight the title to indicate your current location.
You can also rearrange your document by moving titles, which will automatically reorganize the numbering and the entire section.
In Pages mode, you can view thumbnail images of your pages and click on an image to go directly to that page.
As you scroll through the document, Word will highlight the corresponding page in the Navigation Pane.
You can resize the Navigation Pane by placing your mouse at the right edge of it.
In the next video, we will cover the Results course and different ways to search in a Word document.
Learning how to use the Navigation Pane will help you efficiently navigate and rearrange your documents in Microsoft Word.

Objectifs :
This video aims to teach users how to effectively navigate and manage large documents in Microsoft Word using the Navigation Pane. It covers how to open the Navigation Pane, move through the document using headings, pages, and results, and how to rearrange, delete, or add titles and sections.
Chapitres :
-
Introduction to the Navigation Pane
Navigating through large documents can be a tedious task. Fortunately, Microsoft Word provides a feature called the Navigation Pane, which allows users to navigate without scrolling and locate sections more easily within the document's hierarchy. -
Opening the Navigation Pane
To open the Navigation Pane, follow these steps: - Activate the 'View' tab in the ribbon. - Select the 'Navigation Pane' checkbox. Alternatively, you can click on the current page number located at the bottom left of the status bar. If the pane is already open, clicking the page number will close it. -
Navigating Through the Document
The Navigation Pane offers three ways to move through your document: 1. **Headings**: This view is based on the table of contents of your document, provided you have applied the Headings Style. Click on a title to jump to that section, and Word will highlight the title to indicate your location. You can expand or collapse subtitles using the arrow next to the title. 2. **Pages**: This mode displays thumbnail images of your pages. Click on a thumbnail to navigate directly to that page. As you scroll through the document, Word highlights the corresponding page in the Navigation Pane. 3. **Results**: This feature will be discussed in the next video, focusing on different ways to search within a Word document. -
Rearranging Document Sections
The Navigation Pane also allows you to rearrange your document easily. For example, moving a title will also move the entire section, with automatic reorganization of numbering. To manage sections: - Right-click on a title and choose 'Select Heading and Content'. - Use the following shortcuts: - Press CTRL + X to cut the section. - Press CTRL + C to copy it. - Click on the heading where you want to paste it and press CTRL + V. - To delete a section, simply press the delete key on your keyboard. -
Adding New Headings
If you want to include a new title or chapter in your document: - Right-click on an existing title and choose 'New Heading Before' or 'New Heading After'. - The new title will automatically adopt the style and level of the previously selected title. -
Changing Title Levels
To change the level of a title: - Right-click on the title and choose 'Promote' to raise it to a higher level or 'Demote' to lower its level. -
Adjusting the Navigation Pane
You can resize the Navigation Pane by placing your mouse at the right edge of the pane and dragging it to enlarge or reduce the window. -
Conclusion
In summary, the Navigation Pane in Microsoft Word is a powerful tool for managing large documents. It enhances navigation, allows for easy rearrangement of sections, and simplifies the process of adding and modifying headings. In the next video, we will explore the Results feature and various search methods within a Word document.
